How to install Google Chrome Web browser on Rocky Linux 8.

There are two methods through which you can install Google Chrome in your Rocky Linux system.

  1. You can download the rpm binary file and install it through dnf package manager.
  2. You can create the Google chrome repository and install it from there.

Method 1 : Installing Google Chrome through RPM binary file.

Follow the steps below to install Google Chrome through RPM binary file.

Step 1 : Update your system

The best practice is to always update your system prior to installation.

Run the command:

sudo dnf update -y
sudo dnf clean all

Step 2 : Download & Install Google Chrome.

Once your system is updated, visit the official Google download center ( https://www.google.com/chrome/) and download the package.

Execute the commands below.

sudo dnf install https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm

This command gives the following output :

sudo dnf install https://dl.google.com/linux/direct/google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm

Alternatively, you can use the wget command to download the Google Chrome RPM binary file then install it using the dnf package manager.

sudo dnf install wget

Once the download is complete, install Google Chrome using the command:

 sudo dnf localinstall google-chrome-stable_current_x86_64.rpm 

The command installs Google Chrome and all its required dependencies.

Method 2 : Create Google Chrome from Chrome repository

To create google chrome from the repository, run the command below:

Once you have defined your configurations by editing /etc/yum.repos.d/ with the text editor of your choice, proceed to install Google Chrome stable.

Run the command below:

sudo dnf install google-chrome-stable
